Bird of the year 2012

Sadly, 2012 was not to be the year of the Saddleback or Tieke Twelve as we had hoped.

T’was a good year though. Once again the Saddleback did not come last, and what we lacked in votes we made up for in integrity and moral fortitude. Continue reading →

Spontaneous Saddleback Sonnet Sessions

To commemorate the Tieke’s imminent glorious victory in Bird of the Year 2012, I have self-published a book celebrating the Saddleback.

Read it. It’s free. If you like it then please donate. I will give 50% of all koha to Forest and Bird and, if I y’all keep donating past my print run costs, everything else will go to them. I have a limited number of print copies, if you want one please email Me .

Did you like this? Probably not. But if you appreciate the time and effort that went into making it then koha would be greatly appreciated.

I got a tattoo of a Tieke! Tieke-ke-ke-ke-ke! Continue reading →

Saddleback Haiku

If you vote Saddleback in Bird of the Year and tell me you have (no real proof needed, I am rather trusting). I will write you a Haiku.

Here are some I have done already. Will update this post whenever a new one comes along.

For @hatepash

Like a Saddleback
Billie jumps boisterously
caffeine overload

For Tim

Tim Cochrane is cool
Saddleback across New Zealand
really like his face

For Monika Lewis

Monika likes birds
I have heard she also likes
to tweet all day long.

For Simon

One day Simon saw
a saddleback on the shore.
“Amazing” he thought

For Nat

Nat had a pet bird
a Saddleback I have heard
It loved her knitting

Birthday and birds (part 2)

I even managed to catch some Tieke/Saddleback (Philesturnus carunculatus) while I was there (on camera, not in a trap to take home and have pets).

Pinot Tieke

I bought a bottle of Peregrine’s 2009 Saddleback Pinot Noir.

Peregrine Wines do conservation work and have helped save the Saddleback. Awesome.

I’ll let you know how it tastes.
