Birthday and birds (Part 1)

It was my birthday yesterday and my wonderful girlface took me to Zealandia! Above are some Wellington Green Geckos (Naultinus elegans punctatus).

A beautiful kereru (Hemiphaga novaeseelandiae) took flight just as I was about to snap it.

The electric boat.

A Papango , Scaup or black teal (Aythya novaeseelandiae) doing it’s diving thing. My friend Rachel says they dive for an average of 26 seconds. She knows. She counted them many times.

Takahē! They are so awesome. Such a success story. Scientific name is Porphyrio hochstetteri. Just in case you were interested.

Sleepy Takahē.
